We designed a relaxing space for our clients who wanted a garden to enjoy from the house, as well as within it. Their existing apple tree was a real focal point in the garden, and it's canopy informed the curved design of the ground plan. Circular-edged beds draw your eye away from the boundaries, and arches of planting beds within the lawn help to create layers of foliage and flower, making the garden seem deeper.
A pale sandstone was used for the main patio and smaller seating areas, contrasting with two copper slate clad walls which shimmer in the light and cast interesting shadows throughout the day.
Bespoke metal arches provide height in the garden, without dominating the space, and lawn paths draw you around the garden to the various seating areas in both sun and shade.
Evergreen structure in the form of box balls gives some permanence, with lots of differing foliage and flowers throughout the seasons providing interest all year round.
