COUNTRY COURTYARD

A project that we finished earlier this summer was a courtyard garden in a rural setting.
Our clients had a South facing space outside of their kitchen, which they wanted to use for catching an early morning coffee.
Their house was full of architectural character, and with the skill of our fantastic landscaper, we managed to salvage old bricks, coping stones and tiles, which we worked into the design, to give the new courtyard a sense of place and history in its setting.
We were delighted to discover some rusted cartwheels in the grounds which we used as vertical interest, framing views to the setting beyond.

BEFORE
Here's a reminder to ourselves of what the space looked like before we started!

HOW WE DID IT...
The space is now easily accessible from the house and links with the entrance to an outhouse too, each with their own private seating area, catching the sun at different times of the day.

New trees balance out the height of the house and the existing box hedge, whilst shrubs, grasses and herbaceous plants give some green structure and natural interest within the walls of the courtyard.
